Apsana Begum MP is looking to recruit a Senior Caseworker. This is an exciting opportunity for those who enjoy face-to-face interaction with the public and stakeholders and are looking to make a difference for the people of Poplar and Limehouse.
Key responsibilities
Casework and coordination
- Manage a large caseload of cases, working in a professional, confidential and sensitive manner.
- Organise surgeries and other appointments and following up as needed.
- Exercise a high level of autonomy in reaching decisions on cases.
- Ensure all cases and decisions are properly documented with appropriate actions.
Communication
- Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages for the constituency and publicising surgeries.
- Ensuring online presence to meet the demands of the constituents, the locality and the MP.
- Produce graphics and video content and updating online platforms e.g. MP’s newsletter and website.
Project and stakeholder management
- Engage professionally, sensitively and confidentially with members of the public, (via phone, social media, emails and face to face) including people without English as a first language.
- Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve cases.
- Manage projects and deliver external stakeholder engagement on behalf of the MP.
Analysis, research and reporting
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues and trends
- Producing updates and briefings on cases with recommended actions
- Develop knowledge in specialist areas and researching issues to support MPs’ work
Administration
- Enhancing caseworker manuals, templates and office systems and trackers
- Supporting management of the MP’s diary, delegated as appropriate
- Hold and process data and information confidentially, in line with GDPR.
Additional responsibilities:
- Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
- Supervision of interns and volunteers
- Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring
- There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally
This is a full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week.

Interview/Start Dates
Interviews will be held on the w/c 1st June and will involve written tests. The start date will be agreed with the successful candidate.
Person Specification
Experience
- Proven experience of casework management, whether in a MP’s office, charity or other public service
- Experience of meeting and assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds with their concerns
- Experience of sending out high volumes of correspondence
- Experience in a customer- facing role, using casework management software and dealing with a high volume of personal, sensitive data
- Experience of drafting and sending out written correspondence
Knowledge
- Knowledge of local authority regulations and government legislation to ensure correspondence falls in line with these
Skills and Aptitudes
- Excellent organisational, research and verbal communication skills with clear and concise writing style
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite, including Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
