Apsana Begum MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant. This role is suitable for someone who enjoys working on policy and casework, interacting with members of the public to ensure their views are heard and represented in Parliament.
Key Responsibilities
Casework and Parliamentary work
- Managing a large caseload of cases including on policy and drafting responses to constituents making contact by phone, email, online and face-to-face.
- Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify impacts and opportunities from casework.
- Assist with the drafting of speeches.
- Produce graphics and video content to update online platforms.
Analysis, research and reporting
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues and trends.
- Maintain and develop knowledge on specialist and relevant areas of parliamentary business – motions, Hansard, legislation, upcoming business and debates.
- Undertake research and produce updates and briefings for press releases, potential questions and parliamentary work.
Project work and management
- Manage projects and deliver external stakeholder engagement on behalf of the MP and maintain ongoing relationships.
- Work in a professional, confidential and sensitive manner with members of the public, including those without English as a first language.
- Organise, attend and deliver meetings, appointments, events, tours, drop-ins, lobby days and APPGs, taking minutes and following up as needed.
Administration
- Enhancing manuals, templates and office systems and trackers
- Hold and process data and information confidentially, in line with GDPR.
Additional responsibilities:
- Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
- Supervision of staff, interns and volunteers
- There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally
This is a full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week.

Person Specification
Experience
- Experience of drafting and sending out written correspondence, presenting and communicating information to different audiences
- Proven experience of casework management (whether in a MP’s office, research organisation other public service)
- Experience of meeting and working individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintaining relationships with groups and stakeholders
- Experience in a customer- facing role, using casework management software and dealing with a high volume of personal, sensitive data
Knowledge
- Knowledge of national and local policy issues, government legislation and how to ensure correspondence and communication falls in line with these.
- Knowledge of the UK Parliament and procedures
Skills and Aptitudes
- Clear and concise writing style.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite

Apsana Begum MP is looking to recruit an experienced and people-orientated Executive Office Manager to join her in Poplar and Limehouse. This is a full-time and permanent role based in her constituency office.
Key Responsibilities
HR, Payroll and Finance
- Manage and lead the office team, undertake 1:1s, ensuring the wellbeing of staff
- Keep accurate personnel records & notify IPSA of changes
- Review and deliver budgets, liaising with IPSA
- Manage the recruitment and retention of staff, identify training needs & create development plans
- Ensure budgets and office environment centre and support the MP’s needs & priorities
Administration
- Maintain a highly professional administrative support including office systems, trackers, processes & manuals
- Proficient use Microsoft Office including Teams, Excel, Outlook & SharePoint
- Overall management of the MP’s diary, delegating tasks as appropriate
- Ensure the office is fully equipped
- Hold and process data and information confidentially and in line with the data protection legislation
Security
- Lead on all security matters for the MP and office, maintain records and enhance protocols
- Liaise with external bodies such as the Police
- Keep abreast of security guidance and disseminate information within the office
Constituency and stakeholder management
- Horizon-scanning and problem-solving
- Deliver external stakeholder engagement and on constituent matters on behalf of the MP
- Liaise with interest groups within the constituency & the public with professionalism, care and integrity, including people from diverse backgrounds & without English as a first language
Casework management
- Lead casework meetings and oversee surgeries
- Take ownership of certain complex and sensitive casework as required
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience as a business, non-profit, or MP office manager
- Enjoy working with people and leading teams

- Working in a constituency office
Desired
- Chartered CMI, CIPD, project management certification or equivalent
- Accounting skills
