Today in Parliament, I spoke in a debate on the effect of covid-19 on Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
My constituency, Poplar and Limehouse, is both one of the most diverse areas in the country, with a large Bangladeshi population, and one of the most deprived, having the highest rate of child poverty in the UK.
And now we have suffered a high percentage of excess deaths due to COVID-19.
It is no coincidence.
And in particular, it is not random that one of the most vulnerable groups with regard to the virus are British Bangladeshis.
Discrimination and structural racism continues to dictate who gets dumped on and who gets resources and suffers events worse.
