On VE Day we celebrate the triumph of humanity over hate. We remember people in the UK and in our Commonwealth whose bravery and ultimate sacrifices rescued people from unimaginable fate.
Usually St Matthias Community Centre in Poplar and Limehouse would be brimming with celebration and party.
This year, Neighbourhoods in Poplar led by Sister Christine and a hardworking team of volunteers delivered freshly cooked fish and chips to vulnerable residents in the constituency. Some of these constituents have stories to tell about how they prepared for and survived the Blitz in the East End. I had the pleasure of joining them for the distribution.
