Statement on Covid vote

Today in Parliament there will also be a debate on the Government’s COVID plans that came into effect before Parliamentarians could have a say and vote. I haven’t been called to speak at this debate but I wished to make my views known.

The number of coronavirus cases and the numbers of coronavirus patients in our hospitals shows the Government’s current strategy has just not worked. It has let down our vulnerable including children in our schools. It has been clear for long enough now that a full national lockdown and the economic support to enable it is not just needed, it is imperative.

We must follow the science.

If there is a vote on this today on this, I will be voting against the tier system. I will also continue to demand the economic support and safety measures that constituents so desperately need to self-isolate in order to save their lives and the lives of loved ones.

Solidarity.
