Equal Pay Day

Today is Equal Pay Day – the day when women effectively stop getting paid for the rest of the year compared to their male counterparts.

Women in London earn 14% less than men, and women of colour experience a far greater pay gap. Labour has just announced our real measures to address the structural barriers that are holding so many women back in Poplar and Limehouse.

Unfairness at work has to end. Our plans will close the gender pay gap by 2030.

The measures include…

✅ A new Workers’ Protection Agency with powers to audit and fine organisations that fail to properly address and work to reduce pay gaps
✅Extending statutory maternity pay from 9 to 12 months
✅Raising the pay of low paid public sector workers by ending the pay cap and bringing local public services back in house
✅National pay scales in low paid sectors with overwhelmingly female workforces, such as childcare and school support staff
