Food Hub

Dawatul Islam’s Food Hub has been delivering food, providing befriending services and carrying out shopping for locals experiencing food insecurity or unable to leave their homes in this crisis.

COVID19 has meant that many in Poplar and Limehouse have had to access the social security system for the first time, and many a food bank, especially where they have had to wait for their first Universal Credit payment.

Some are less likely to come forward for help and support due to the stigma in needing to access support especially essential items such as food. This crisis reminds us how interdependent we are and how years of austerity have exposed the fragility of food security. There is no shame in seeking help to access food.

It was a pleasure to join Dawatul Islam and participate in their preparations and delivery earlier today.
